Team4Tech and Autodesk hosts Tech Days

Vision AfriKa was host to two very successful Tech days in 2015. Team4Tech and Autodesk  presented the first Tech day in August and Eduvate and GSDT presented the second one in October.

A Tech day is an opportunity for learners to work and play with technology. In the process, they learn more about design thinking and the application of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects in unexpected and fun ways.

High school learners are recruited from the Kayamandi community, Makupula Secondary School, the Vision Africa aftercare programme and learners from Cloetesville High School.

Learners were introduced to Tinkercad, a software program that allows users to design and build shapes and objects using 3D design, digital photography, and taught how to design their own apps. On the second Tech Day, a TV crew from Prontuit (a current-affairs program on Kyknet, a local television channel) was also present.

Learners also had the opportunity to see the two 3D printers that Autodesk donated to Vision AfriKa print 3D objects.

Learners completed an online feedback form about the Tech Day. Here is what one of them had to say:

“Instead of siting at home on weekends, I prefer being busy and learning important things that will make my future bright.”

If you are interested in being involved in our Tech days or want to collaborate, please send an e-mail to Moija the manager at Eduvate at moija@eduvate.org.za. You can also go to the Tech day Facebook page Vision Africa Tech days.
